HSC results are in... what now?

Following the release of HSC exam results yesterday, NSW Year 12 students can discover their University Admissions Index number today, via the Universities Admission Centre website (www.uac.edu.au) from 9am.

The UAI result will determine the university courses that students are eligible to enrol in for 2008.

NSW Minister for Education and Training, John Della Bosca, has urged HSC students to consult the Iemma Government’s careers advisory service, which is now open to assist students over the next month.

“If your HSC results are above or below your expectations, deciding what to do next can be exciting and confusing,” Mr Della Bosca said.

“Experienced careers advisors from the Department of Education and Training will be providing students and their families with help about career and study options in what may be the biggest decision of their life up to this point.

“Last year 2,320 students, parents and carers used the Careers Advisory Services, which have been operating since 1977.

“Until 18 January, students have the option of calling, emailing or visiting the Careers Advisory Services website,” he said.

Options include:

• A phone-in service 1300 300 687; or
• E-mail service which can be accessed from the website www.cas.det.nsw.edu.au

The Careers Advisory Services provide helpful and impartial advice on a wide range of subjects including:

• Career and study options available to students with lower or higher than expected UAIs;
bull; the differences between HSC marks and UAI rankings;
• information about changing study preferences; and
• information about university and TAFE NSW application processes and courses.

Mr Della Bosca said the Careers Advisory Services complemented services provided by the Board of Studies, the Universities Admissions Centre, TAFE NSW, universities and other providers.

“The Careers Advisory Services are staffed by experienced careers advisers from NSW government high schools who provide well informed and friendly advice,” Mr Della Bosca said.

“I encourage young people and their families with questions about what to do next to contact the Careers Advisory Services for advice that could set them on the path to a rewarding career,” he added.

Students with inquiries about their Higher School Certificate results can ring the HSC Examination Inquiry Centre on 13 11 12 for the cost of a local telephone call from anywhere in NSW.
