It's the final 'pens down' for HSC Class of 2008
The final examinations in the 2008 NSW Higher School Certificate finish today.
The Minister for Education and Training, Verity Firth, said a record 67,931 students were enrolled in HSC courses this year, most sitting for six written exams, which began a month ago.
"There will be relief and rejoicing around the state today as the final HSC students hear 'pens down' for the last time," Ms Firth said.
"The HSC is an important milestone in students' lives and they have to work hard to meet the challenges of this world class credential.
"I would like to offer my congratulations to the Class of 2008 and wish them the best for successful future studies and careers.
"The hundreds of teachers that have taught these students and the many more who are marking exam papers deserve our thanks and gratitude."
The last exams today are Society and Culture in the morning and Tourism (VET), Chinese Background Speakers, German Extension, Modern Hebrew Continuers, Spanish Extension in the afternoon.
HSC exam papers are being marked by 7000 markers around the State.
Ms Firth said the next significant date for HSC students was Wednesday 17 December when the results would be available by SMS, online and by phone from 6am.
"Students who register for the SMS will only be charged the standard cost of a text message and those who ring for results will be charged at standard local call rates from home phones."
Students can register for SMS by sending a text message with their student number and PIN to 0427 659 900.
The Telephone Results Service is an automated telephone service which will be available from 6am on 17 December by calling 1300 669 248 and providing their student number and PIN. Calls from mobile phones and payphones are extra.
On the release date, students can also access their results, using their student number and PIN, at three Board of Studies websites:
"Meanwhile, 2008 HSC students can share their views on their Higher School Certificate experience in the HSC Student Survey which will be available at studentsonline.bos.nsw.edu.au from 5pm today," Ms Firth said.
