HSC students flock to one-stop study shop!

Seventeen year old Ashlee Walker of Beverly Hills Girls High School in Sydney's south was named the 1000th student to log on to the Board of Studies new Students Online website.

Ashlee, who lives in Ryde, receives a $50 University Co-op Bookshop voucher for using her Higher School Certificate Student ID and PIN to log on to studentsonline.bos.nsw.edu.au last week.

Dr John Bennett, the General Manager of the Office of the Board of Studies, said as more and more students received their PIN letters via their schools, the log-in numbers were growing daily.

"Ashlee - our 1000th student - logged in for the first time on 13 June, just four days after the first PINs were distributed," Dr Bennett said.

"Six days later, on 19 June, we had passed the 4000th student log-in and we expect to be able to give away our second $50 voucher early next week to a student chosen at random from the first 5000 to log in.

"Any HSC student who has not yet received their PIN letter should speak to their Year Adviser."

The new Students Online website is an Australian-first, creating a personalised web service for every NSW HSC student. The home page is built with 'pods' of information that students can move around, add to or remove to suit themselves.

After logging in, each student sees official Board of Studies support material for their own subjects, such as:

  • quick links to the syllabuses and past exam papers that apply to their courses
  • their own HSC exam timetable
  • an interactive 'ToDo' pod where they can list upcoming assignments and set their study priorities to High, Medium or Low
  • an Essential Links pod, allowing students to add any of their favourite websites to the important pre-loaded study sites
  • answers to many Frequently Asked Questions about the HSC, with many more to be added as the exams draw closer
  • access to individual Assessment Rank Order Notices when they are available in November.
