Innovative designs and inventions by some of the State's best young designers go on show in Newcastle this week.

The designs of seven Central Coast and Hunter students are among the 22 projects featured in the DesignTECH exhibition, a showcase of HSC Design and Technology student works, at Newcastle Region Library.

The designs range from elaborate costumes to mechanical devices. Innovations by local students include a device to transport spearfishing catch through the water without attracting sharks, a contemporary church lectern and race hats from recycled materials.

DesignTECH opens to the public in the Newcastle Region Library on 30 April 2009.

Media are invited to speak to local students whose works are on display at the official opening of the DesignTECH exhibition at 10.30am on Friday 1 May 2009 at Lovett Gallery, Newcastle Region Library, Laman Street, Newcastle.
