Official Notice - K-6 Science and Technology Syllabus Development update

BOS 13/09

In the period February 2007-December 2008, the Board of Studies reviewed the current Science and Technology K-6 Syllabus. A draft syllabus has been under development in accordance with the endorsed Writing Brief. The original timetable included consultation on the draft syllabus during Term 2, 2009.

At its meeting on 31 March the Board of Studies considered the implications of finalising the syllabus in light of the development of national curriculum in Science. The Board decided to advise the Minister that consultation and further work on the Science and Technology K-6 Draft Syllabus not proceed in light of the development of the national curriculum in Science K-12 but that the Science and Technology K-6 Draft Syllabus, in its current form, provide the basis in formulating NSW advice to the National Curriculum Board.

NSW primary teachers should continue working with the current Science and Technology K-6 Syllabus until further notice.

The Board of Studies will provide further information later resulting from the work on the draft Science and Technology syllabus to assist in the consultation processes around the national science curriculum.

Teachers are advised that details regarding the work of the National Curriculum Board are available at www.ncb.org.au. The site has provision for subscribing to email alerts to access up to date information on timelines and opportunities to feedback.
