Official Notice - Stage 6 Mathematics update

BOS 12/09

At its meeting on 31 March the Board of Studies considered the final drafts of the Stage 6 Mathematics syllabuses developed during 2007-2008.

The Board's endorsement of the syllabuses at the meeting marked the final process in the review and development of Stage 6 Mathematics courses.

It was agreed, however, to advise the Minister not to approve the syllabuses for implementation at this time, pending the outcomes of the national curriculum development. As advised in the February update, NSW senior secondary Mathematics teachers should continue working with the current syllabuses throughout 2009 and 2010.

The Board also agreed to use the syllabuses as the basis for its advice to the National Curriculum Board concerning the national Mathematics curriculum.

NSW teachers should continue working with current Stage 6 Mathematics syllabuses. The Board of Studies will provide further information later resulting from the work on the revised Stage 6 Mathematics syllabuses to assist in the consultation processes around the national Mathematics curriculum.

Teachers are advised that details regarding the work of the National Curriculum Board are available at www.ncb.org.au. The site has provision for subscribing to email alerts to access up-to-date information on time lines and opportunities for feedback.
