Official Notice - English Stage 6 Prescriptions 2009-2012: Update on Prescribed Editions

Listed below are updated details regarding prescribed texts included in English Stage 6 Prescriptions: Area of Study, Electives and Texts, Higher School Certificate 2009-2012.
Updated versions of the entire Prescriptions document and the Prescriptions poster are available on the Board's website. These versions contain all previously notified changes to editions.

| Area of Study/ Language Study within an Area of Study | Dickinson, Emily, Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson (ed James Reeves), Heinemann Education, 1959, ISBN: 9780435150235 | Other editions have different punctuation. | This edition was prescribed in 1988-89, 1993-1995, 1999-2000, and includes some changes to the author's original punctuation. However, schools are reminded that the poems are to be studied as part of the Area of Study Belonging, which requires students 'to explore the ways in which the concept of belonging is represented in and through texts' (English Stage 6 Prescriptions 2009-2012, p 10) and for the ESL course, 'to explore the ways in which the concept of belonging is considered and expressed in and through texts' (p 24). Schools may use any suitable edition if the specified edition is unavailable. Where a text is quoted in an examination question it will be from the listed edition. |
