Paper 2 English, floods in the Riverina

Day three of the 2010 NSW Higher School Certificate saw more than 60,000 students complete their final English two-unit examination.

Paper 2 in English Standard and English Advanced ran from 9.25am to 11.30am and the second English as a Second Language paper, including the listening exam, began at 3.25pm and finished after 5.00pm.

Feedback from English teachers today included comments that the use of quotations in the Standard section II were an interesting 'entry point' to the questions.  In English Advanced some teachers noted the use of 'you' and 'your own' in section II Module B encouraged 'an informed personal response'.

The state's 5644 English Extension 1 students have a final two hour exam on Thursday 28 October.

Despite earlier concern, there were no reports of Riverina floods preventing students from reaching HSC exams today.

Students are reminded that they should never endanger themselves to reach an HSC examination.  If in any doubt about their ability to reach an exam they should call their school for advice. Students who fall ill or have an accident during the exam period should also call their school as soon as possible for advice on how to proceed.

Principals and presiding officers have the Board’s Exam Operations Centre number and may call for advice if floods or other difficulties arise during exams.  The Board’s usual Illness/Misadventure provisions apply to any unforeseen events.
