First maths exam today

Today saw the first of the four HSC mathematics exams, General Mathematics, which is taken by nearly one in every two students.

Teachers offered a mixed reaction to the exam, ranging from “fair coverage of the syllabus” and “reasonable cross-section for students of different abilities” to concerns about difficulty and that some students would not have finished all questions.

This is not unusual for either of the two-unit maths courses.  Both have very large candidatures and therefore a very wide range of ability among students.

Detailed descriptions of exam setting, marking and judging can be found in the How Your HSC Works section of the Board's website.
