New advice and video for HSC Oral Languages exams

New advice is available to teachers and students about the Higher School Certificate Oral Languages exams.

The advice reflects the recent changes to assessment and examination requirements for the 2010 Higher School Certificate. It contains general information on the conduct of all Oral Languages exams as well as course-specific details.

A new video showing students what to expect during their Oral Languages exam is also available on Schools Online and Students Online.

Former Languages student Harriet Hope Streeter and HSC supervisor of marking Gus Avgoustou explain the format for the exams, practical arrangements and useful tips to make sure students are well-prepared for their exam.

"The Oral Languages exams are usually held on a Saturday at centralised venues rather than the student's home school which makes them a little different to most HSC exams," said Peter Feary, Manager of Examination Operations at the Office of the Board of Studies.

"We've produced this video to make sure candidates know what to expect and to put them at ease so they are not distracted on the day by details such as where to park or whether they should be wearing their school uniform."

Watch the video.

Progressively throughout Term 3 students will receive a letter notifying them of the date, time and venue of their Oral Languages exam. These details will also be progressively available on Students Online.

Oral Languages exams start on 5 August 2010.
