HSC markers at Sydney Olympic Park

The Board of Studies wishes to confirm that the more than 6000 HSC and School Certificate teachers working in 15 marking centres throughout NSW are housed in venues that meet required occupational health and safety standards.

This includes the multipurpose Showground pavilions at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush that have been used for HSC and School Certificate marking since their construction just prior to the 2000 Olympic Games.

The Sydney Showground was named the Best Venue at the 2011 Australian Event Awards. It hosts more than 400 exhibitions, conferences, festivals and events each year.

“The wellbeing of HSC and School Certificate markers is paramount,” said chief executive of the Board of Studies NSW, Carol Taylor.

“Prior to being used for marking, the Showground venues at Olympic Park as well as five other Sydney-based marking centres were subject to an independent OHS audit.

“It found ‘all centres are of a high standard,’” she said.
