In 2010, the Minister for Education approved a common code for the attendance registers of all New South Wales schools. The Registered and Accredited Individual Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual and the Registration Systems and Member Non-government Schools (NSW) Manual were amended in May 2011 to reflect this requirement.
The codes must be used from the start of the 2012 school year. The codes for use in either manually updated attendance registers or electronic attendance registers are published on the websites of the NSW Association of Independent Schools (AIS) and the NSW Catholic Education Commission (CEC).
