Young inventors on show at DesignTECH

DesignTECH, an exhibition of outstanding Design and Technology projects from 2010 Higher School Certificate students opens at the Powerhouse Museum 19 February.

The designs on show demonstrate a diverse collection of innovative ideas including a pool alarm and safety unit, a finless surfboard, a learner driver iPhone application, a medical compounding device, a concept for an animated children’s television series, and a brake for prams.

The importance of sustainability is a feature of many of the students’ works, with projects using recycled material and developing ways to use energy efficiently.

The ideas behind the projects show HSC students have a strong sense of social responsibility for matters not only immediate to them, but on a world scale as well.

This year, the Powerhouse exhibition will also include a small number of HSC Textiles and Design projects.

DesignTECH will be on display at the Powerhouse Museum until 1 May and will then tour to Dubbo, Tamworth and Newcastle.

Visit Showcases and Exhibitions for further details about the exhibition and Design and Technology seminars.
