Official Notice: New Stage 6 Mathematics syllabus - Mathematics General 2 (Board Developed Course) and Mathematics General 1 (Content Endorsed Course)

The Board’s current Stage 6 General Mathematics course will be replaced by two new courses to be introduced in 2013.

In 2009, the Board endorsed the courses Mathematics General 1 and Mathematics General 2, as two of five new mathematics courses endorsed for Stage 6.

The Mathematics General 2 course will be available as an (examinable) Board Developed Course, allowing students to count their mathematics study towards the calculation of an ATAR. Mathematics General 2 will be implemented with Year 11 in 2013 and will replace the current General Mathematics course. General Mathematics will be examined at the HSC for the last time in 2013.

The first HSC examination in Mathematics General 2 will be held in 2014.

The Mathematics General 1 course will be available as a (non-examinable) Content Endorsed Course (CEC). The course may be implemented with Year 11 in 2013 and Year 12 in 2014.

The availability of Mathematics General 1 for all schools means that the Board will no longer consider School Designed Board Endorsed Course applications for Stage 6 Mathematics, Applied.

The new courses, together with course descriptions, will be available in the HSC Syllabuses section of the Board’s website by the end of Term 1 2012.
