Dictionary of Classroom Strategies

Are you new to teaching and need help with strategies for the classroom? Are you an experienced teacher looking for new ideas for classroom teaching or to rediscover those strategies that you may have been overlooking?

Then look no further. Compiled by the Board of Studies NSW, the Dictionary of Classroom Strategies demonstrates tried and true teaching, learning and assessment strategies for the K–6 classroom that can be applied across the curriculum.

This invaluable resource introduces teaching, learning and assessment strategies for the classroom. It is intended both as a reference tool for teachers and as a professional development guide for schools. Entries have been organised alphabetically to make it easy to find the information you need.

The dictionary covers topics as diverse as:

  • brainstorming
  • De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats
  • games
  • guided and independent reading
  • spelling strategies
  • standardised tests
  • storyboarding
  • using technology in the classroom
  • writing conferences.

Schools that have trialled the dictionary report an increase in the range of strategies teachers are using in their day-to-day teaching. These strategies can be applied across the curriculum.

The book is available for purchase on the Board’s Shop Online page under ‘What’s new’.
