The Royal Botanic Gardens - Educational resources for primary schools

The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust provides an excursion program at the following sites

  • The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney
  • The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan
  • The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah

To ensure that all schools can access the same quality experience the Trust has developed a new digital education program for use in primary schools. The resources make it possible for all schools to conduct virtual excursions, to gain an insight into plant conservation, biology, seed collection, preservation and propagation. The virtual excursions are designed to cover a range of key learning areas.

The PlantBank website offers pre- and post-visit activities and resources for students and teachers. An interactive learning pilot has been developed and includes:

  • a suite of online interactive learning programs and extension activities for school students using Connected Classroom technology on the themes of plant sciences, plant conservation, sustainability and the environment.
  • virtual excursions across three Botanic Gardens.

Excursions can be planned around learning experiences that include:

  • State and National Parks
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  • Rainforest Explorers
  • Aboriginal people and plants
  • Contact – First explorers
  • Seuss, Seeds and Sustainability
  • Mini beasts
  • Wet and Dry
  • Plants: Parts, Pollinators and Propagation
  • Get growing
