Higher School Certificate Examinations Monday 20 October 2014

 

Morning

 

Biology

Candidature: 17397 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM

The paper consists of two sections.

Section I Core (75 marks) consists of two parts: Part A – 20 multiple-choice questions (20 marks) answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet and Part B – short response questions (55 marks) answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
All questions in Section I are compulsory.

Section II Options (25 marks) consists of five questions, one for each option. Students answer the question based on the option they have studied. Each question is made up of short-answer parts.

 

Classical Greek Extension

Candidature: 13 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 11:25 AM


The paper consists of two sections.

Section I: Prescribed Text (30 marks)
In this section, students translate an extract/s into English, analyse language and/or contextual features, and write an extended response on the historical, social and/or literary context of the prescribed extract.

Section II: Non-prescribed Text (20 marks)
In this section, students translate an extract of Homeric Greek text into English and answer short response questions related to the text. Students choose to translate an additional extract of Homeric Greek text into English or to translate a passage of English prose into Classical Greek.

 

Afternoon

 

Modern Greek Extension

Candidature: 47 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 3:55 PM

The paper consists of two sections.

Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts.
In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text.
In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Greek to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and Greek.

Section II – Writing in Modern Greek (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended-response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Greek.

 

Music 1

Candidature: 5078 (as at 1 September 2014)

Aural Skills

Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 3:00 PM


The Aural Skills written paper is worth 30 marks. The paper consists of four questions that relate to musical excerpts broadly reflecting the range of topics offered for study.

Questions are answered on the question paper. All questions are compulsory.



Music 2


Candidature: 769 (as at 1 September 2014)

Musicology and Aural Skills

Begins: 3:25 PM Ends: 5:00 PM

The Musicology and Aural Skills written paper is worth 35 marks.

The paper consists of four questions that require candidates to integrate aural and musicological skills and understanding. Sections of scores are included in the paper.

Questions are answered on the question paper.

All questions are compulsory.
