Minister Piccoli visits HSC marking centre

Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli visited a BOSTES HSC marking centre to talk with markers recently.

Minister Piccoli, accompanied by Paul Hewitt, BOSTES Executive Director, Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment, met markers at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) marking centre in Alexandria, where Modern History and Biology examinations were being marked.

BOSTES employs more than 5,000 markers. Over 55% of HSC marks are captured onscreen. Other onscreen marking centres are at Homebush, Rosehill, Maitland and Coffs Harbour.

In 2014, HSC markers will mark over two million writing books for 116 examinations throughout October and November.

The advantages of onscreen marking are that it is faster, more accurate and can be done from home. It also allows Senior Markers and Supervisors of Marking to review marking in real time.

A ceremony will be held for HSC First in Course students on Tuesday 16 December, ahead of the release of HSC results on Wednesday 17 December.
