Visit by a delegation from the Sultanate of Oman

The Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) recently hosted a delegation from the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 April 2014.

Six representatives from the Ministry of Education, led by Dr Ziyana Salim Al Harthy, were interested in learning more about Life Skills content and outcomes in the NSW syllabuses as well as Vocational Education in NSW.

BOSTES President, Tom Alegounarias welcomed the delegation before a series of presentations were delivered by Paul Hewitt, Executive Director, Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment and BOSTES officers, Marina Laing, Senior Project Officer, Curriculum Projects and Catherine Tucker, A/Board Inspector, Vocational Education.

The delegation was particularly impressed by the breadth of the NSW curriculum and the flexibility of the NSW curriculum structure that allows students to engage in learning relevant to their interests and abilities. The availability of resources to support the understanding and implementation of the NSW syllabuses was also of great interest.
