For the first time, this year the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards will host a composition marking development day for teachers of HSC Music. This event is in addition to the practical marking development sessions for Textiles and Design and Visual Arts, which BOSTES has been offering for a number of years. Completion of any of these sessions will be acknowledged with professional development accreditation.

The HSC Music marking session will focus on the process for composition marking. Conducted by the Supervisor of Marking and senior markers, the session will be held at the marking centre in Enmore. There will be an opportunity for participants to view, listen to and talk about the benchmark compositions. Senior markers will discuss the marking criteria and give advice on monitoring students' work.

The Textiles and Design session will focus on the major design project and the Visual Arts sessions on the body of work. Participants will gain professional development related to submission and marking, and have an opportunity to view and discuss the benchmarks.

The Textiles and Design practical marking development evening will be held on Friday 12 September, from 5 pm to 7.30 pm at the Exhibition Centre, Rosehill. The cost is $105, and tickets will go on sale on 11 August.

The Visual Arts practical marking development day will be held on Saturday 4 October, from 9 am to 1 pm at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park. The cost is $135, and tickets will go on sale on 25 August.

The Music composition marking development day will be held on Saturday 15 November, from 9.30am to 1pm at Camdenville Public School, Enmore. The cost is $165, and tickets will go on sale on 15 October.
