Students aim to hit the right note in the HSC Music Practical Exams

6,585 students are taking their HSC Music practical exams from Monday 1 - Saturday 13 September.

There are three HSC Music courses, Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension, which all include either a compulsory or elective performance component.

Music 1 consists of a written exam, a core performance practical exam and elective exams where students can choose three electives made up of any combination of performance, composition or musicology.

Music 2 consists of a written exam, a practical exam, a core composition and an elective – either a performance, composition or musicology.

Music Extension consists of a performance practical exam or submission of a composition or musicology essay.

Music is one of several HSC subjects that have a practical component as part of their HSC exam. This year the following courses require a practical exam or submission of works as part of the HSC exam:

• Dance
• Design and Technology
• Drama
• English Extension 2
• Industrial Technology
• Languages (except Classical languages and Background Speakers courses
• Music (all courses)
• Society and Culture
• Textiles and Design
• Visual Arts
