BOSTES briefs Industry Training Bodies on the RoSA and Literacy and Numeracy tests

BOSTES recently sought feedback from school teachers on how we can help them communicate about the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and the voluntary literacy and numeracy tests to students considering leaving school before the HSC.

A ‘RoSA information kit’ is being developed and will soon be made available to high schools.

Another area highlighted in feedback was the importance of employer awareness of, and support for, the literacy and numeracy tests.

To facilitate this, BOSTES met with NSW Industry Training Advisory Bodies' (ITABs) representatives to provide an overview on the RoSA and the literacy and numeracy tests.

ITABs are key industry contacts for the NSW Government and they provide independent industry advice on the training and skill needs of industry to facilitate workforce development.

The ITAB representatives were pleased to see the questions reflected real life contexts such as map reading and adding up prices in the numeracy test. They were also pleased that the literacy questions tested knowledge of punctuation, grammar and spelling as they would provide a good indication to employers of how a person providing their test results would cope with the demands of the job.

BOSTES will now prepare information for the ITAB representatives to present at their regular meetings with employer groups to ensure greater awareness of the tests.
