Implementation of NSW K-10 syllabuses

Teachers are reminded of the implementation schedule for the NSW K-10 syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science and History.

 Years 7-10

In 2015, K-10 syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science and History should be implemented for all students from Years 7-10.

K-6

Teachers of K-6 will have started implementation of the NSW English K-10 Syllabus in 2014. From 2015, implementation of the K-10 Mathematics and Science syllabuses will commence. Teachers also have the option to implement the NSW History K-10 Syllabus in 2015 with implementation required for K-6 from 2016. Further advice regarding teaching HSIE in K-6 is provided below.

 K-6 HSIE

For 2015 schools will continue to teach the Environments, Cultures and Social Systems and Structures strand of the current HSIE K-6 Syllabus and:

- continue to teach the Change and Continuity strand in the HSIE K-6 Syllabus

OR

- start teaching the History K-6 outcomes and content from the NSW History K-10 Syllabus in place of the Change and Continuity strand.

Further information is available for K-6 schools choosing to implement the new History syllabus in 2015. Note that all K-6 schools will be required to implement the new History syllabus in 2016.

All syllabuses can be accessed from the syllabuses section of the BOSTES website.
