Phonics: A Guide for Teachers

BOSTES has released a new resource, Phonics: A Guide for Teachers, to assist in teaching reading.

While a broad range of strategies should be used to teach reading, phonics provides an important foundation. “The ability to use phonics is essential when developing reading skills in students,” commented BOSTES President, Tom Alegounarias.

The booklet is part of a series of NSW Government initiatives to improve student outcomes through Great Teaching, Inspired Learning (GTIL). The booklet contains advice on:

  • approaches used to teach phonics
  • the process of developing a phonics program
  • developing parent understanding of phonics
  • teaching strategies including games and activities.

Copies of Phonics: A Guide for Teachers can be purchased from eBos shop online > What’s New/Special Offers for $20.50.
