Higher School Certificate Examinations Thursday 22 October 2015

Morning

Chinese Background Speakers
Candidature: 679 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
9:30 am Ends: 12:30 pm

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (20 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (10 marks), students respond to questions based on one text in Chinese. Questions are phrased in English and Chinese for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students hear two texts in Chinese. The question will be based on both texts and will be phrased in Chinese and English for a response in Chinese.
Section II – Reading and Responding (55 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students respond to one or more prescribed texts in either English or Chinese. In Part B, students exchange information in response to an unseen text in Chinese. The question is phrased in Chinese and English for a response in Chinese.
Section III – Writing in Chinese (25 marks)
Students write an original text in Chinese. There is a choice of two tasks. Questions are phrased in Chinese and English.

Chinese Beginners
Candidature: 27 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
9:30 am Ends: 12:10 pm
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Chinese. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Chinese and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in Chinese (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in Chinese. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Chinese, requiring responses in Chinese. Students answer one question.

Legal Studies
Candidature: 10504 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
9:25 am Ends: 12:30 pm

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I (20 marks) consists of 20 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (30 marks) consists of two parts. Part A – Human Rights (15 marks) consists of short-answer questions answered on the question paper. Part B – Crime (15 marks) consists of one extended-response question answered in a writing booklet.
All questions in Sections I and II are compulsory.
Section III – (50 marks) consists of seven extended response questions, one for each option. Each question offers an internal choice of two. Students attempt two questions, each on a different option.

Afternoon

German Extension
Candidature: 69 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
2:00 pm Ends: 4:00 pm

The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in German to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and German.
Section II – Writing in German (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended-response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in German.

Senior Science
Candidature: 6478 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
1:55 pm Ends: 5:00 pm

The paper consists of two sections.
Section I Core (75 marks) consists of two parts: Part A – 20 multiple-choice questions (20 marks) answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet, and Part B – short-response questions (55 marks) answered in the spaces provided on the question booklet. All questions in Section I are compulsory.
Section II Options (25 marks) consists of five questions, one for each option. Students answer the question based on the option they have studied. The question is answered in two separate writing booklets.
