Reminder: HSC marking Professional Learning Opportunities 2015

This year, BOSTES is excited to be offering a number of Professional Learning activities based on the HSC marking process.

Completion of the HSC Marking Workshop contributes 6 hours of QTC Registered PD (addressing 5.1.3; 5.3.3; 5.4.3; 6.2.3; 6.3.3 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers) towards maintaining Highly Accomplished Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

HSC Marking Workshops – Mathematics and Biology
Following from last year’s successful workshops simulating the HSC marking experience in English, BOSTES is offering a series of workshops based on the HSC Mathematics and Biology examinations. The Sydney event is now sold out. Tickets are still available for the following sessions in regional areas:

Saturday 9 May - Southern Highlands
(Goulburn High School)

Saturday 16 May - Orange
(James Sheahan Catholic High School)

Saturday 23 May - New England
(Armidale High School)

The cost of the workshops is $480. Permanent and temporary teachers working in government schools defined as rural and remote are eligible for $300 towards the cost.

HSC Practical Marking Development sessions for submitted works
For a number of years, BOSTES has offered practical marking sessions in various subjects where students are required to submit a project or major work as part of their HSC examination. In 2015, sessions in the following subjects are being held: Music, Textiles and Design, Visual Arts and, for the first time, Drama. The sessions provide an opportunity for teachers to learn about the marking process on location at the marking centre. Senior markers discuss the marking criteria and give advice on monitoring the development of submitted works. Participants are also able to view and discuss benchmarks. The dates are:

TEXTILES AND DESIGN: Friday 4 September

VISUAL ARTS: Saturday 3 October

DRAMA: Saturday 10 October

MUSIC: TBA

The cost of the workshops vary depending on the course. Details are available on the BOSTES Professional Development page. Tickets will be available later in the year.
