HSC students - check your Assessment Rank Order this Friday!

HSC Pin Postcard

This week all HSC students will receive a postcard with their PIN in their letterbox reminding them to login to Students Online to access their Assessment Rank Order Notice.

Assessment Rank Order Notices will be available on the Students Online website from 5.00 pm on Friday 13 November 2009, five days earlier than previously advised.

Students will see the order in which they have been ranked in their school for each course and must tell the school immediately if they think a ranking is incorrect. Any appeals must be lodged with School Principals by Friday 20 November.

It is very important that students check that their assessment ranks are correct in each course as these will affect their final HSC results. For an explanation of how this works, read about our HSC Aligning and Moderating Procedures.

Students will need their Student ID and their PIN to login to Students Online. The Student ID is the number students used during their HSC examinations. The PIN can be found on the front of the postcard students are receiving this week. It is important that the PIN be kept confidential.

Students should keep the postcard handy as they will require their PIN on Wednesday 16 December to obtain their HSC results via the internet, telephone or SMS.

Please note that PIN letters were sent to all schools for distribution to HSC students in May this year. This is the same PIN that will appear on the postcard - students already using Students Online should keep using their existing PIN!

Students who have not received their postcard by Monday 16 November should contact Student Records on (02) 9367 8001.

HSC exams and 'swine flu'

Major public examinations like the Higher School Certificate exams and the School Certificate tests always involve contingency plans in the event of disruptions.

The Board of Studies NSW is experienced in handling cases where students' performances in exams are affected by an illness or misadventure, including floods, fires or illnesses such as human swine flu.

By the time students commence their HSC exams in October 2009, 50 per cent of their marks will have been completed and recorded as their school assessment.

The school assessment provides the Board with an indicator for cases where students suffer illness or misadventure during or just prior to the exams.

The Board has already provided advice to schools on dealing with cases where students' school assessment tasks are disrupted as a result of human swine flu.

New medal for Premier's Awards for All-round Excellence in the HSC

New medals have been struck for the 2008 winners of the Premier's Awards for All-round Excellence in the NSW Higher School Certificate.

The silver medals will be sent to nearly 1200 students this week, in recognition of their outstanding achievement in last year's HSC.

The medals bear the NSW Government crest on the obverse (pictured below) and the Board of Studies NSW logo on the reverse, above a semi-circular blank which may be engraved later with the student's preferred name.

Premier's award medal for all-round excellence

All-rounders are students who have attained marks of 90 or above in at least 10 units - that is, Band 6 or E4. The full list of 2008 All-rounders was published on the Board's website in December.

The All-rounders also received a certificate and letter of congratulations from the Premier of NSW, Nathan Rees.

Questions about the new All-rounders' medals can be sent to information@bos.nsw.edu.au
