Heritage Languages Draft Courses of Study now available for consultation

The Heritage Languages Draft Courses of Study in Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Indonesian and Korean are now available for consultation.

The consultation period on the draft courses will be from 19 October to 30 November 2009. Please complete the online survey here.

Framework for Heritage Languages

Two new documents have been published relating to the development of Heritage languages courses in Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Indonesian and Korean. Both are available on the National news page.

These are:

Official Notice - Amendments to the Japanese Background Speakers HSC course prescriptions 2009-2013

BOS 33/08 (Vol 17 No 3)

The Board wishes to advise teachers and students of the following amendments to the Japanese Background Speakers HSC course prescriptions for 2009-2013.

  • The following chapters in the text, Otokodatera ni onnanaki, are prescribed for study:
  • 'Wakagumi no nakademo hassou' and 'Otokonaki no bigaku'.
  • The publisher of the text, Chiisaki mono e, is Shinchosha.

Official Notice - Amendments to Stage 6 Languages Background Speakers Syllabuses

BOS 30/08 (Vol 17 No 3)

Amendments to Stage 6 Languages Background Speakers syllabuses in Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean

The Board wishes to advise teachers of minor amendments to the Stage 6 Languages Background Speakers syllabuses in Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean.

The amended syllabuses and a summary of changes will be available by the beginning of Term 3 2008 on the Board of Studies website.

The amended syllabuses will be effective for the HSC examination in 2009.

The website will contain:

  • the original syllabuses approved in 1999 (which remain current for the HSC course and examination in 2008)
  • the amended syllabuses (for the HSC examination in 2009).

Effective: 2009 HSC examination

Official Notice - Japanese Extension HSC Course Prescriptions 2009-2013

The Board wishes to advise teachers and students that a resource list of kanji to accompany the study of the prescribed film, Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, has been published on the Board of Studies website.

Official Notice - Amendment to Japanese Background Speakers HSC Course Prescriptions 2009-2013

The Board wishes to advise teachers and students that the film Aozora no yukue (The Way of Blue Sky), directed by Masahiko Nagasawa, has been withdrawn from the list of HSC Course Prescriptions for 2009–2013.

Official Notice - Eligibility rules for Stage 6 Languages Continuers/Background Speakers Courses

BOS 75/01 (Vol 10 No 6)

The Board wishes to advise that the eligibility rule for entry to some Stage 6 Languages courses has been revised. The revision applies to those Continuers courses where a Background Speakers course also exists in that language.

Continuers and Background Speakers courses currently co-exist in Chinese, Indonesian/Malay, Japanese, and
Korean.

Stage 6 Extension courses in Chinese, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Spanish Proposed changes to extracts prescribed for intensive study

BOS 81/01 (Vol 10 No 6)

The Board wishes to advise that proposed changes to the extracts set for intensive study for Extension Courses for HSC 2003 in Chinese, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese and Spanish have been posted on the Board's website at www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au. The Office would welcome feedback on the proposed changes by 1st February 2002.
