Official notice - Updated Information Technology Curriculum Framework for implementation in 2010

BOS 41/09

A new version of the Information and Communications Technology Training Package (ICA05v3) has been released as part of the continuous improvement process for training packages. As a result the Board of Studies has updated the current Information Technology Curriculum Framework (2006) Stage 6 Syllabus.

Official Notice - Revised Construction Curriculum Framework for 2010

BOS 39/09

Following advice to schools, colleges and Registered Training Organisations in March 2009, the Construction Curriculum Framework (approved September 2009) replaces the Construction Curriculum Framework (approved September 2004) commencing with Year 11 students in 2010.

The HSC examination from 2011 onwards will be based on the revised Construction Curriculum Framework.

The final Construction HSC examination based on the existing 2004 Framework will be in 2010.

The revised Construction Syllabus documents are available on the Board of Studies website.

The Board of Studies will send a printed copy of the Syllabus Parts A and B to all schools and TAFE NSW colleges delivering courses from the current Framework, and all teachers currently accredited to teach Construction during Term 4, 2009.

Effective: Year 11, 2010.

Official Notice - Amendments to the Entertainment Industry Curriculum Framework

BOS 36/09

As a result of an error in the Entertainment Training Package (CUE03), the Board of Studies has made the following amendment to the Entertainment Industry Curriculum Framework (2009) Stage 6 Syllabus:

  • correction to the unit code for Provide quality service to customers from CUECOR03C to CUECOR03B

Schools and colleges should ensure that RTOs delivering courses from the Entertainment Industry Curriculum Framework to their students update their documents to reflect this change.

Details of the changes in the syllabus are outlined in the Entertainment Industry Modification History. The updated Entertainment Industry syllabus documents are available on the Board of Studies website.

Updated VET Content Endorsed Courses in Furnishing and Hairdressing for 2010

Updated VET Content Endorsed Courses in Furnishing and Hairdressing endorsed for delivery from 2010 are now available.

These courses have been updated to reflect changes in the latest version of the respective Training Package that they are based on. Details of changes to the Content Endorsed Courses are outlined in the Modification History in the appendix of each course description.

The course description for each VET Content Endorsed Course provides details on the range of courses and qualifications available, course structures and requirements including work placement requirements, exclusions and BOS course numbers.

Schools and RTOs wishing to offer courses in Furnishing or Hairdressing to students in 2010 should consult the relevant VET Content Endorsed Course description.

Schools and RTOs wishing to offer courses in Aged Care, Community Services or Property Services to students in 2010 should consult the relevant VET Content Endorsed Course description.

Stage 5 School Certificate VET Courses for 2010

The course descriptions for School Certificate VET Board Endorsed Courses endorsed for 2010 are now available.

Schools looking to offer these courses to students in 2010 should consult the Guidelines for access to VET courses in Stage 5 in 2010 and complete a Notification of intention to access VET courses in Stage 5 in 2010 by Friday, 25 September 2009.

Schools should also contact their Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to confirm the Certificate I qualification(s) available in the course(s) are on the RTOs scope of registration.

VET Board Endorsed Courses for 2010

Course descriptions for Stage 6 VET Board Endorsed Courses endorsed for 2010 are now available on the Board's website.

Each course description includes details of the BOS course name and numbers, exclusions, work placement requirements and course details. The actions schools need to take to offer courses to their students in 2010 are also listed.

Schools should ensure that they have the appropriate endorsement before offering a Stage 6 VET Board Endorsed course to students.

Amendments to the Business Services Curriculum Framework

A new version of the Business Service Training Package has been released (BSB07v2) as part of the continuous improvement process for training packages.

The new version contains some clarification in the scope of the examinable unit of competency BSBOHS201A Participate in OHS processes; however, the examinable content of the unit remains unchanged.

Official Notice - Amendments to the Business Services Curriculum Framework

BOS 23/09

A new version of the Business Service Training Package has been released (BSB07v2) as part of the continuous improvement process for training packages.

The new version contains some clarification in the scope of the examinable unit of competency BSBOHS201A Participate in OHS processes; however, the examinable content of the unit remains unchanged.

The other changes are minor.

As a result the Board of Studies has made amendments to the Business Services Curriculum Framework (2008) Stage 6 Syllabus. These amendments do not alter the course structures outlined in Section 8 of Part A of the syllabus.

Schools and colleges should ensure that RTOs delivering courses from the Business Services Curriculum Framework to their students amend their teaching programs to reflect these changes.

Details of the changes are outlined in the Business Services Syllabus Modification History (PDF, 76KB). The updated syllabus documents are available on the Board of Studies website.

Guidelines to access VET Courses in Stage 5 in 2010

The Guidelines for access to VET courses in Stage 5 in 2010 are now available.

These guidelines outline the guiding principles for access to VET courses in Stage 5 and the key features of the curriculum pathways available. They also highlight important planning considerations to allow schools to make appropriate choices for their students in their local context.

Schools wishing to offer VET courses to Stage 5 students in 2010 need to read the guidelines and complete a Notification of intention to access VET courses in Stage 5 in 2010 form. Notification's for 2010 are due to the Office of the Board of Studies by Friday, 25 September 2009.
