Official Notice - Amendment to Stage 6 CCAFL Languages Continuers and Background Speakers Syllabuses

BOS 50/09

Minor amendments have been made revising 'tasks' to include a reference to 'audience' in the following syllabuses:

Stage 6 Continuers Syllabuses

Armenian, Croatian, Dutch, Filipino, Hindi, Hungarian, Khmer, Macedonian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Swedish, Tamil, Turkish and Ukrainian

Stage 6 Background Speakers Syllabuses

Malay, Persian and Russian

The description of tasks has changed from four elements to five elements. A description of the task element 'audience' has been included.

The description of the tasks should now read:

Tasks can be described as having five elements:

  • a purpose (a reason for undertaking the task that goes beyond the practice of the language for its own sake)
  • a context (this may be real, simulated or imagined, and may include aspects such as where, when, who is involved)
  • an audience (the person/persons at whom the task is directed)
  • a process (thinking, problem-solving, creating)
  • a product (a result that can be described in terms of achievement of the purpose of the task and in the student's overall cognitive development).

The amended syllabuses will be available during December 2009.

Effective: 2010 Preliminary and HSC courses

Texstyle: Final selection letters were sent out to students and schools on 13 November.

Callback: Nomination letters were issued in September. Students and schools will be advised of final selections in early December.

Students, parents and school staff are reminded that nomination for an HSC showcase does not indicate a particular mark for the student's major work or performance. There are many factors involved in final selection for a showcase event or exhibition, for example: the ability to transport a major project; the suitability of a performance for a particular kind of stage; the need to show a mix of performances or projects that demonstrate the scope of the relevant syllabus; the inclusion of students from locations around NSW. Most importantly, there are limits on the number of performances or works that can be included in any one year. Inevitably, there are many outstanding students who are not nominated or, having been nominated, are not selected for the final showcase.

2009 HSC Student Survey Now it's over have your say

The 2009 HSC Student Survey is a quick online questionnaire giving HSC Students the chance to tell the Board what they think about their 2009 HSC courses and exams.

The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.

Completing the survey gives you the chance to win one of three $50 University Co-op Bookshop vouchers.

The HSC Student Survey will open on Students Online at 5pm on Friday 13 November and will close at midnight on Friday 11 December 2009.
