Official Notice - Access to Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses in Stage 5 in 2009

BOS 36/08 (Vol 17 No 3)

The guidelines for access to VET courses in Stage 5 in 2009 are now available on the Board's website.

For schools that belong to school systems, the relevant school sector authority will provide separate additional advice on processes for approval to offer and deliver VET courses to students in Stage 5 in 2009.

Schools intending to offer VET courses to students in Stage 5 in 2009 are required to complete a Notification of intention to access VET courses in Stage 5 in 2009 form and submit it to the Office of the Board of Studies by Friday, 29 August 2008.

Notification forms received will be forwarded to the relevant school system authority for their information.

Chief Examiners, Members of Examination Committees and Assessors for 2009 HSC and SC

BOS 35/08 (Vol 17 No 3)

The NSW Board of Studies invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified teachers and academics who wish to participate in the development of the 2009 Higher School Certificate examinations and School Certificate tests as Chief Examiner, member of an examination committee or assessor. The development of the examinations commences in Term 4 2008 and continues to about July 2009. Assessing takes one day and occurs usually in Term 1.

Successful applicants receive an honorarium and travel expenses.

Applications for Chief Examiner must be submitted no later than Friday, 4 July and for committee member and assessor no later than Friday, 22 August 2008.

Official Notice - Amendments to the Japanese Background Speakers HSC course prescriptions 2009-2013

The Board wishes to advise teachers and students of the following amendments to the Japanese Background Speakers HSC course prescriptions for 2009-2013.

  • The following chapters in the text, Otokodatera ni onnanaki, are prescribed for study:
  • 'Wakagumi no nakademo hassou' and 'Otokonaki no bigaku'.
  • The publisher of the text, Chiisaki mono e, is Shinchosha.

Official Notice - Amendments to Stage 6 Languages Extension Syllabuses

Amendments to Stage 6 Languages Extension syllabuses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish

The Board wishes to advise teachers of minor amendments to the Stage 6 Languages Extension syllabuses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish.

The amended syllabuses and a summary of changes will be available by the beginning of Term 3 2008 on the Board of Studies website.

The amended syllabuses will be effective for the HSC course and examination in 2009.

The website will contain:

  • the original syllabuses approved in 2000 (which remain current for the HSC course and examination in 2008)
  • the amended syllabuses (for the HSC course and examination in 2009).

Official Notice - Minor Amendment to Malay Background Speakers Stage 6 Syllabus

Minor Amendment to Malay Background Speakers Stage 6 Syllabus – Rotation of Prescribed Themes

The Board wishes to advise teachers and students of an amendment to the rotation of the prescribed themes for the Malay Background Speakers course for the 2009 Higher School Certificate.

The prescribed themes for the 2009 HSC, and until further notice, are ‘cultural change’ and ‘socioeconomic change and development’.

Please replace section 8.1.1 Prescribed Themes on page 15 of the syllabus with the following:

8.1.1 Prescribed Themes

There are four prescribed themes, two to be studied each year:

2008

  • Malaysia and the world (Year 12)
  • socioeconomic change and development (Year 12)
  • women in society (Year 11)
  • cultural change (Year 11)

2009 and until further notice

  • Malaysia and the world (Year 11)
  • socioeconomic change and development (Year 12)
  • women in society (Year 11)
  • cultural change (Year 12)
