Official Notice - Economics Stage 6 Syllabus - amendment

The content of the Economics Stage 6 Syllabus (1999) in HSC Topic One - The Global Economy requires the follow-ing correction to clarify the requirement for a case study of an economy other than Australia (page 33):

delete the word ‘should’
replace with the word ‘must’.

The wording for the case study on page 33 now reads:

Case study

A case study on the impact of globalisation on an economy other than Australia must be undertaken, along with the strategies that this economy is using to promote economic growth and development.

2004 School Certificate Australian History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship Test

The Board of Studies advises that for the 2004 School Certificate Australian History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship Test, the order of the components will be as follows: Section 1 (Parts A, B and C) of the test will be the Australian History, Civics and Citizenship component, and Section 2 (Parts A, B and C) will be the Australian Geography, Civics and Citizenship component. The numbering of questions will be sequential throughout the paper.

The Board has been advised that the Hospitality Training Package (THH02) has been amended by Tourism Training Australia. As a consequence the Board wishes to advise teachers of the following amendments to the Stage 6 Hospitality Curriculum Framework:

Part A of the syllabus, pages 13, 17, 21, 28 and 42: amend unit code for Prepare and serve espresso coffee to read THHBFB12B.

Correction to the Web Version of the Geography Stage 6 Syllabus

The Board of Studies wishes to advise teachers of Stage 6 Geography of the following correction to the web version of the HSC course internal assessment table (page 36 of the syllabus).

In the heading for the first column, 'Suggested Component' has been replaced with 'Component'.

This correction is to bring the web version into line with the printed version of the syllabus.

The Board of Studies wishes to advise teachers of the Stage 6 Hospitality Curriculum Framework of the following errata to Part A of the syllabus.

On page 17 under the heading Certificate I in Hospitality Operations:

rows 6 to 9, (Unit Codes THHBFB02B, THHBFB03B, THHBFB10B and THHBFB12A) replace '-' with the word 'elective' (ie Food and Beverage units of competency are elective for this qualification)
rows 10 to 13, (Unit Codes THHBFO02B, THHBFO10B, THTSOP06B and THTSOP08B) replace the word 'elective- with '-' (ie Front Office units of competency are not elective for this qualification)

The Board confirms that the nominated topics for Parts A and B of the Australian History, Civics and Citizenship component of the 2003 School Certificate Australian History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship test are:

Topic 1: Australian Social and Political Life to 1914. Topic 5: Post-war Australia to the 1970s.

These topics were notified in Board Bulletin Official Notice BOS 33/00 (Vol 9 No 5).

For 2004 and 2005, the nominated topics for Parts A and B of the Australian History, Civics and Citizenship component of the test are:

Topic 4: Australia and World War II. Topic 6: Social and Political Issues from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Amendment - Stage 6 Hospitality Curriculum Framework and Tourism Curriculum Framework

The Board of Studies wishes to advise teachers of the Stage 6 Hospitality and Tourism Curriculum Frameworks of the following changes to Part B of these syllabuses.

Under HSC Requirements and Advice, the disability discrimination legislation is amended to Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), on page 66 of Part B of the Hospitality syllabus and page 55 of Part B of the Tourism syllabus.

Updated Retail Curriculum Framework

Following advice to schools in November 2002 the Board wishes to confirm that the Retail Curriculum Framework (approved June 1999, updated November 2002) replaces the Retail Curriculum Framework (approved June 1999) from Year 11, 2003.

The optional 2003 Retail HSC examination will be the final examination based on the Retail Curriculum Framework (approved June 1999). From 2004 onwards, the optional Retail examination will be based on the Retail Curriculum Framework (approved June 1999, updated November 2002).
