Official Notice: Minor amendment to the HSC examination in Society and Culture

BOS 14/12

Who needs to read this notice:
Curriculum coordinators
HSC coordinators
Head teachers (HSIE)
Society and Culture teachers

From this year, in Section II of the Society and Culture written examination there will be separate questions totalling 20 marks for each Depth Study, rather than one question made up of parts. The questions in Section II will be relabelled.

The Society and Culture examination specifications have been amended to reflect this change. The examination specifications now state that in Section II of the written examination there will be questions worth 20 marks in total for each of the four Depth Studies, and candidates will be required to answer questions on one Depth Study.

The amended examination specifications are published in Assessment and Reporting in Society and Culture, available from the Society and Culture syllabus page of the Board’s website.

To illustrate the new format, a modified copy of the 2011 Society and Culture HSC examination is also available on the Society and Culture syllabus page of the Board’s website.

Effective: 2012 HSC examination.
