English key skills' charts enhance visual learning

All primary schools in NSW have been implementing the new English syllabus. Many schools report they find the key skills' charts, which are available from the eBOS online shop, helpful.

The charts show the key skills for each stage of primary education (Early Stage 1 through to Stage 3) across six areas. These skills are:

  • Sound - Phonological awareness
  • Visual - Graphological processing
  • Letter/Sound - Graphological
  • Spelling
  • Handwriting
  • Digital text production

When displayed in the classroom, students can see exactly what is expected of them as they progress through the stages. New teachers report that they provide a reference for what they want their students to learn and provide clear direction and focus on skills to be taught.
