Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli MP congratulated HSC student Stephanie Po-Myat recently on winning her WorldSkills Australia award.

The St John’s Park High School student received a bronze award in the Vocational Education and Training in schools (VETis) category of Retail.

“NSW schools had an overwhelming presence in the winning tally in the VETis category, winning 19 out of a possible 30 awards,” said the Minister, who has congratulated all the NSW winners.

WorldSkills Australia is open to students still attending school or college and undertaking a two-year Certificate II VET course. It includes a range of VET subjects currently available in the NSW curriculum, where skills learnt in the classroom are directly transferrable to the workplace. The competition involves students completing a series of work-simulated projects.

In 2014, 23,000 HSC students are enrolled in at least one VET course. The most popular are: Hospitality with over 8,300 students, Construction with over 3,500 students and Business Services with over 2,300 students.
