Official Notice - Revised Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies Syllabus available for 2011

BOS 31/10

The revised Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies Syllabus, to be implemented for Year 11 in 2011 and Year 12 in 2012, is now available.

The main changes in the revised syllabus include:

  1. reorganised and streamlined content in both the Preliminary and HSC courses
  2. a significant rewording and reduction of course outcomes from 14 to 11 in both the Preliminary and HSC courses
  3. enhanced content in both courses to provide a deeper understanding of the issues related to collaborative researching with Aboriginal people
  4. updating course content in both courses so that they more accurately reflect the significant social, economic and policy changes that have occurred over the last 10 years
  5. a reduction of the mandatory requirement to situate the teaching of HSC topics within local Aboriginal communities
  6. a reduction from three to two Indigenous communities in Part I B – Comparative Study in the HSC course.

A guide to the changes to the syllabus will be available on the Board’s website later in Term 3, 2010. Sample teaching programs, assessment tasks and assessment schedules will be available in late 2010. A specimen Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies HSC examination will be developed and made available on the website after the 2011 HSC examination.

The final HSC examination using the Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies Syllabus (1999) will be held in 2011.
