Development of new senior secondary syllabuses

BOSTES has begun work on the development of new syllabuses for Stage 6 English, Mathematics, Science and History.

This follows state and territory Education Ministers’ agreement that the senior secondary Australian curriculum for English, Mathematics, Science and History is the common base for development of state and territory senior secondary courses.

The new syllabuses will support implementation of Australian curriculum content, whilst maintaining the current high standards of NSW syllabuses. Syllabus features familiar to and appreciated by NSW teachers will be retained.

BOSTES will follow its syllabus development process to develop the new NSW syllabuses. A review of existing syllabuses is currently underway and will be completed in the first half of 2014, with development of new syllabuses occurring in the latter half of 2014 and throughout 2015.

An implementation schedule for the new syllabuses will be developed in consultation with teacher and principal representatives across all sectors.

Have your say

There will be opportunities for involvement of teachers and the wider education community throughout the syllabus development process.
